PLACE BONAVENTURE, MONTREAL: 800 de la Gauchetière, main entrance, to the left of Presse Cafe
Substance P + Atomic #15 is a dance that tells a story about phosphorous, through live interaction between dancers and the public. The sensuality of this performance is intensified through the consumption of amuse-bouches that are measured in phosphorous, rather than the usual calorie counts.
Phosphorous is an element that is essential for life. As such, it is one of the basic building blocks that form the FOUNDATIONS for survival on Earth. The element most often discussed with the public is carbon, because of its importance in global climate change; however, the scientific community has identified phosphorous resource management as an urgent challenge for food security and environmental pollution. The goal of this project is to create an art-science collaboration that communicates sustainability problems, and explores solutions in an alternative way. Dance, along with food, narration and live music offer exciting ways to learn about the complex nature of phosphorous sustainability. This interactive dance brings phosphorous cycling to life by engaging all of the senses through colours, movement, music and food! Substance P + Atomic #15 is presented as part of Art Souterrain and Nuit Blanche 2014.
